UK restores diplomatic ties with Syria after grooming Sharaa for power
The UK played a key role in sparking the 2011 war and bringing Sharaa to power, including by sending British citizens to join the Nusra Front and ISIS
Britain reestablished full diplomatic relations with Syria on 6 July as part of the visit of UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy to Damascus to meet the country’s new de facto leader, Ahmad al-Sharaa.
In a video message on X, Lammy claimed the UK had an interest in Syria’s recovery after 14 years of war.
“It matters that it’s stable, because if it’s not, the terrorism that can happen here washes up on our own streets back at home,” he said.
He also stressed the importance of addressing illegal immigration, noting that “it’s hugely important we continue to support progress here.”
“This is a country that is ancient, made up of many different people. The future has to be an inclusive one. It has to be a peaceful one. And I hope for prosperity for all of the Syrian people,” he said.
Britain played a key role in sparking the war in Syria in 2011, which killed hundreds of thousands, and in bringing the current government, led by Sharaa, to power in December 2024.Sharaa previously fought for the Islamic State of Iraq (the precursor to ISIS) after the 2003 US invasion. He was detained in Iraq in 2006 and released by US officials in 2008.
After his release, Sharaa was appointed head of Islamic State operations in Mosul Province, dispatching suicide car bombers to kill Shia Muslims and Christians. In August 2011, he was dispatched to Syria by Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi to establish the Nusra Front.
That same year, UK intelligence facilitated the travel of British extremists of Libyan and West and South Asian backgrounds to Syria to fight against the government of Bashar al-Assad. Many joined the Al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front and ISIS.
The same year, former UK Prime Minister Tony Blair’s chief of staff, Jonathan Powell, founded the NGO Inter Mediate, a Foreign Office-funded project aimed at establishing secret channels with insurgent groups.
He boasted that his group worked closely with the UK foreign office and UK intelligence.
Powell personally met multiple times with Sharaa in Idlib Governorate in an effort to rebrand his terrorist image and groom him as Syria’s next leader.
The Nusra Front was later rebranded as Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). Sharaa and HTS captured Damascus in December, ousting Assad.
Syrian analyst Malek Hafez told the Syrian Observer that Powell, who became UK National Security Advisor in November, has a team running a media office inside the presidential palace, “reportedly run by two women – one British, the other of Lebanese-British heritage.”
As Hafez concludes, “The rise of Ahmad al-Sharaa was not spontaneous – it was carefully engineered through a long-term, western-backed strategy, in which Britain played a disproportionately influential role among western powers.”
Since Assad’s fall, Syria has moved toward becoming an extremist Islamic state based on the violent ideology of the medieval Islamic scholar Ibn Taymiyyah.
In March, extremist Islamist gunmen affiliated with Syria’s Ministry of Defense and General Security massacred at least 1,500 Alawite civilians, often referring to them as pigs and dogs before killingThe Cradle Media report

Sectarian, genocidal incitement targets Christians in Safita, Syria
Residents of Safita, a city in Syria’s coastal mountain region, discovered inflammatory flyers distributed by HTS offshoot Saraya Ansar al-Sunnah.
The leaflets, posted on churches and storefronts, called on the “people of the Levant” to “purify the land” by murdering infidel Christians and to “spare neither their infants nor their newborns.”
The flyers call for the killing of children, enslavement of women, and destruction of churches.
Ansar al-Sunnah, who claimed responsibility for the Mar Elias Church suicide bombing, has allegedly denied involvement.https://t.me/thecradlemedia/39057?single

HTS offshoot Saraya Ansar al-Sunna claims responsibility for Latakia mountain fires
Wildfires Devour Over 7,000 Hectares in Latakia as Syria Forms Emergency Response Team –
More than 7,000 hectares of forest burned in the mountains of Latakia as of Sunday, prompting Syria’s Emergency and Disaster Management Minister, Raed al-Saleh, to announce the formation of a joint operations room to contain the fires.
Speaking to Al-Ikhbariya TV, al-Saleh said around 90 teams and over 150 vehicles, with support from Turkey and Jordan, are battling the ongoing fires in Latakia’s countryside. He described the blazes as a “climate and environmental disaster.”
Efforts are hampered by landmines, war remnants, and strong winds, he added.
Earlier on X, al-Saleh said a field operations room was established with several Syrian organizations now providing logistical and on-the-ground support, including water tankers, trained volunteer firefighting teams, and heavy machinery to cut fire lines and limit the spread.Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) offshoot Saraya Ansar al-Sunna has claimed responsibility for deliberately starting the fires that have ravaged Syria’s Latakia mountains over the past four days. In a statement posted to its Telegram channel, the group declared: “The fighters of Ansar al-Sunna Brigades set fire to the Qastal mountains in the Latakia countryside on the 3rd of Muharram.”
The fires have spread to surrounding areas, forcing residents to flee several villages and causing multiple cases of suffocation due to the thick smoke. Since breaking out on 3 July, the Latakia mountain fires have consumed vast areas of vegetation, with local firefighting teams and civilians struggling to contain them.
The blaze has shut down the international highway linking Latakia to Turkiye and disrupted several power generation stations.
“Tobacco, fruit, vegetables, meat, chicken, eggs, cheese, milk—everything comes from the coast,” a local source told The Cradle’s Syria correspondent. “Entire yards have been burning for weeks now. Literally all the coast people are farmers—they all work in agriculture.”
The source added that Alawite men have taken up guard duty across Latakia’s villages to prevent further arson by extremist militants.
Saraya Ansar al-Sunna, described as anti-Druze, anti-Shia, anti-Alawite, and anti-Christian, previously claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing at the Mar Elias Church in Dweila, Damascus, which left dozens dead and injured.

Global Millions Mark Ashura, Honoring Imam Hussein’s Legacy of Resistance

Islamic Movement of Nigeria Mourns Imam Hussein – PressTV video. Mass commemorations for the 10th of Muharram, known as Ashura, were held on Sunday across the globe. The day marks the martyrdom of Imam Hussein ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad.
Annual rituals, observed worldwide, pay tribute to Imam Hussein’s defiant stand against tyranny during the Battle of Karbala over 1,300 years ago. His revolt, which resulted in his martyrdom, has become a enduring symbol of unwavering justice and moral resistance against oppression. From Beirut to Kashmir, mourners today revived his memory through processions, sermons, and symbolic acts of grief, reflecting a profound spiritual and political legacy.
Iraq: Millions Gather in Holy Cities
In Iraq, considered the spiritual heartland of Ashura, massive crowds converged on the holy cities of Karbala and Najaf. According to Iraq’s Interior Ministry, over 1.17 million pilgrims have entered the sacred shrines since the beginning of Muharram. Karbala alone registered 833 mourning processions, including delegations from 10 foreign countries, highlighting the global significance of Imam Hussein’s sacrifice. Authorities deployed civil defense teams throughout the historic old city to manage the throngs of mourners filling the streets, many chanting the resonant cry: “Labayka ya Hussein!”—Here I am, O Hussein.
Iran: Resistance Echoes Amidst Mourning
Cities and towns across Iran also witnessed extensive Ashura gatherings. This year, the ceremonies were noted to carry a deeper tone of resistance, particularly in the wake of recent Israeli aggression. The slogan for this year’s commemorations, “Iran of Hussein, victorious forever,” reportedly captured the belief that Imam Hussein’s path of justice ultimately leads to triumph.
Pakistan and Kashmir: Devotion and Navigating Repression
In Pakistan, tens of thousands participated in processions, including a major gathering at Karachi’s Nishter Park. Ashura events across the country were held under tight security. Meanwhile, in Indian-controlled Kashmir, where political repression is reported to be high, mourners observed the 9th of Muharram with unique floating processions on wooden boats across Dal Lake, described as an act of devotion navigating complex political waters.
Connecting Across Continents
Communities across Europe, the US, Australia, and parts of Africa also marked Ashura with solemn processions, ‘majlis’ gatherings, and symbolic acts of mourning. From London to Dearborn, and Sydney to Johannesburg, mourners gathered in mosques and community centers, reciting elegies and reenacting the tragedy of Karbala. Despite being far from the shrines in Iraq, the spirit of Imam Hussein’s sacrifice resonated deeply, uniting believers in shared grief and commitment to justice. For many in the diaspora, Ashura served as both a spiritual anchor and a reaffirmation of resistance against oppression in its various forms. These global commemorations underscore the resilience of communities worldwide, invoking Imam Hussein’s memory as a beacon of moral defiance.Al Manar report

Satellite data reveals Iran’s crushing blows to the zion*st colony military bases
Satellite imagery analyzed by researchers at Oregon State University suggests that Iranian missiles struck five zion*st military facilities during last month’s 12-day war, according to a report by the Telegraph.
The British newspaper said that six Iranian missiles hit targets located in the northern, central and southern regions of the zion*st occupied territories, including an intelligence-gathering center and a logistics base.
The findings were based on radar satellite data that identified blast damage consistent with missile strikes.
These strikes were previously undisclosed by Israeli military due to strict censorship laws. Israeli authorities have not publicly acknowledged the strikes, and the Israeli military declined to comment when contacted by the Telegraph, the newspaper said.
Military censorship laws in Israel restrict the publication of sensitive security information, particularly during active conflicts.
During the war, Israeli officials and the United States claimed that approximately 84% of the Iranian missiles were intercepted by Israeli and American air defense systems.
However, according to the Telegraph, data analysis indicates that a growing number of Iranian missiles successfully penetrated the much-vaunted air defenses during the first eight days of the conflict.Analysts suggest this may have been due to factors including a limited supply of interceptor missiles, more sophisticated Iranian technology, or changes in attack strategy.
Iran employed coordinated drone and missile attacks to overwhelm Israel’s air defenses. The use of suicide drones even when intercepted served to confuse systems and allow more missiles to penetrate.
A senior Iranian official, quoted by the Telegraph who spoke on condition of anonymity, said that the use of suicide drones in combination with missiles was a deliberate strategy aimed at overwhelming Israeli defenses.
“The main goal of firing drones is to keep their systems busy. Many don’t even get through – they’re intercepted – but they still cause confusion,” the official was quoted as saying.
On June 13, the Israeli regime launched an unlawful aggression against Iran, leading to the assassination of many senior commanders, nuclear scientists, and ordinary citizens.
Iran retaliated in less than 24 hours with a barrage of missiles and drones, and followed it up with a series of retaliatory operations under True Promise III.
The US entered the war on behalf of Israel on June 22, when its bombers hit three Iranian nuclear sites in brazen violation of international law.
In response, Iran launched a missile strike on Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest US military air base in West Asia, in an act of self-defense.
The embattled Israeli regime was forced to unilaterally accept a truce deal on June 24.

Russia officially recognizes Afghanistan’s Taliban government
President Putin made the decision to ‘improve cooperation on drug trafficking and terrorism.’
Russia has become the first nation to formally recognize Afghanistan’s Taliban government during a ceremony in Moscow on 5 July, as Molavi Gul Hassan Hassan, the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan’s ambassador to Russia, presented a copy of his credentials to Russian Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrei Yuryevich Rudenko.
Moscow’s special envoy to Afghanistan, Zamir Kabulov, explained to RT that Russian President Vladimir Putin made the decision for the sake of jointly fighting terrorism and drug trafficking.
“First of all, Afghanistan is important in the sense that we have well-known concerns about terrorism that used to come out of Afghanistan. Second is drug trafficking. And since we found out that the current regime was doing its best to cope with this problem, it was important to keep a close partnership with the current government of Afghanistan,” Kabulov stated.
Moscow says that the Islamic State-Khorasan, or ISIS-K, killed more than 130 people last year at a concert hall outside Moscow, the deadliest terror attack in Russia in decades.
Afghan Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi stated, “We value this courageous step taken by Russia, and, God willing, it will serve as an example for others as well.”
Recognition of the government in Kabul is also important to facilitate cooperation in various fields with Moscow, including in trade and energy, the Russian Foreign Ministry said.
The Taliban took power in the country in 2021 following the withdrawal of US occupation forces and the collapse of the Washington-backed government.
The Taliban quickly cracked down on the opium and heroin trade that had blossomed under the eye of US occupation troops and intelligence agencies.
At the same time, the movement reimposed its harsh interpretation of Islamic law in the country, including drastic restrictions on women’s rights and education.
In 2022, Russia became the first country to sign an international economic agreement with the Taliban, agreeing to supply the country with oil, gas, and wheat.
In April, Russia removed the Taliban from its list of terrorist organizations.
Afghanistan has been at war for much of the past four decades. In 1979, the Soviet Union, which included Russia, invaded and occupied the country to prop up a leftist government.
With the help of Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, the United States armed and funded Islamic extremists, known as the mujahideen, to fight the Soviet Red Army. Some of these fighters later formed Al-Qaeda.
In 1996, after the Soviet withdrawal and several years of brutal civil war, the Taliban took power in the country.
The US invaded Afghanistan and deposed the Taliban in October 2001, following the attacks of 11 September in New York. US leaders blamed the attacks on Osama bin Laden, the Al-Qaeda leader, then living in Afghanistan under Taliban rule. The Cradle Media report

Hezbollah MP: Resistance and weapons will remain, no to normalization with the zion*st entity
MP Hassan Ezzeddine affirmed that no one can force Lebanon to normalize ties with the zion*st colony or disarm the resistance, emphasizing that the weapons of the resistance are a legitimate and essential means of defense against a predatory enemy.
Speaking during an Ashura gathering, he cited the late Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah’s words that one cannot be asked to surrender their weapon while a threat remains, stressing that the z*onist enemy understands only the language of force and must be confronted with strength.
Ezzeddine declared that the resistance and its weapons will remain, and that Hezbollah will not bow to threats or pressure from the US or its allies, affirming their commitment to defending Lebanon’s land and dignity without accepting humiliation.
Lebanese lawmakers, including Hassan Ezzeddine The so-called Lebanese government and the Lebanese army could finally move to integrate the Islamic Resistance and its arms into the state apparatus.
There are many countries on this planet that have taken the very same steps of unification.
Lebanon would benefit from opposing a homogeneous army.
As the picture proves, Hezbollah is an integral part of the Lebanese governance and politics.
Why not embedding this mighty power into the state’s army?
If a fascist colonising settler entity is dwelling south of the Litani and has been engaged in ethnic cleansing and massacres for the past century, then it is most sensible to capitalise concentrated power to fortify defence and attack!
As Ayatollah Khomeini stated, this zionist entity is not pleased with where it is.
