  • Nearly 20 killed as Nigerian forces attack Quds Day qemonstration in Abuja

Dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters have been killed and wounded as security forces opened fire on an International Quds Day demonstration in Nigeria’s capital city.
According to reports, at least 19 demonstrators were killed and dozens more wounded in Abuja on Friday.

Video footage of the scenes shows armed forces securing the perimeter as protestors flee for cover while bullet shots are heard. The footage also shows soldiers dragging the lifeless body of a civilian on the street and dumping it into a pickup while beating two other protesters and forcing them to get into another truck.

The Islamic Human Rights Commission (IHRC) had expressed concern over attacks against protesters after it was revealed that Nigerian authorities were making preparations in this regard as a pretext for an attack.

The Office of the National Security Adviser had stressed the necessity to stop the al-Quds day demonstration to “prevent a breach of the peace” by the pro-Palestinian protesters, according to a leaked internal letter seen by the IHRC.

In the leaked communique, Nigerian authorities had warned that though the pro-Palestinian demonstrations were peaceful, the protesters had the potential to seek justice by attacking US and Israeli interests in the country. Therefore, their demos must be stopped.

This method has been used by Nigeria’s pro-Israel officials in recent years to prompt the forces to stage a violent crackdown on the demonstrators.

At least one person was killed, and many more were injured after police opened fire on the Quds Day demo in Abuja in 2023.

In 2014, Nigerian security forces killed 34 demonstrators after opening fire on a rally in Zaria.

The annual Quds Day demonstration is held worldwide by pro-Palestinian protesters on the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan to show solidarity with the oppressed people of Palestine.

  • 2025 Quds Day rally organizers, participants in Kashmir booked under draconian law

Authorities in the Indian-administered Kashmir have booked pro-Palestinian organizers and demonstrators, filing cases against them under the pretext of “maintaining law and order.”

On Saturday, it was reported that the police in the Muslim-majority region had registered cases against the organizers and attendants of the pro-Palestinian International Quds Day processions in the region’s Budgam District, accusing them of blocking roads and promoting, what they called, “objectionable slogans.”

The police have filed First Information Reports (FIRs) against the accused over the claims.

They face charges under the “Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA)” for reportedly expressing support for Lebanon’s resistance movement Hezbollah.

The police claimed a march in Budgam’s Sonpah Village had caused disruption by blocking a road leading out of the village to the Beerwah subdistrict.

The move came amid growing public outrage in the region over the ‘Israeli’ regime’s relentless United States-backed aggression across the West Asia region, including its war of genocide on the Gaza Strip, which has claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people.

Elsewhere across the region, pro-Palestinian demonstrations were held during the day, the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan, which has been designated by the late founder of Iran’s Islamic Republic Imam Khomeini as the International Quds Day.

The global event is held annually in the form of rallies in solidarity with the Palestinian cause of liberation from Israeli occupation and aggression.

This year, it was observed by millions across the world, including Muslim nations, with demonstrators condemning the Israeli regime’s acts of bloodletting and destruction and the US’s unbridled military and political support for the atrocities.

Regional resistance movements, including Hezbollah, have, meanwhile, been dealing significant blows to the Israeli military, exposing its vulnerabilities.

UNIFIL accused the Zionist occupation army of attacking its peacekeepers twice today, emphasizing its rejection of any actions that put its forces at risk while carrying out their duties. UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti reported that Zio soldiers fired warning shots from a machine gun across the Blue Line during a scheduled reconnaissance patrol near the town of Rmeish in southern Lebanon. This incident violated UN Security Council Resolution 1701. Fortunately, no one was injured. In a separate incident, UNIFIL peacekeepers also reported that a Zionist occupation military patrol targeted them with a laser, aiming at their bodies and eyes. Tenenti stressed that any actions endangering the safety of peacekeepers are unacceptable and called on all parties to respect their security.

Earlier today, a French UNIFIL unit conducting a foot patrol in Qatmon Valley, near Rmeish, came under fire from one of the Zionist military positions while inspecting an earth berm constructed by the Israeli forces.

The world marks International Quds Day

On the occasion of International Quds Day, people took part in a mass rally in Budgam, Kashmir, in solidarity with Palestine.

Iran, Iraq, and Yemen marked International Quds Day with large public demonstrations, held for the second consecutive year amid the ongoing Israeli aggression on Gaza. Thousands gathered in Tehran, waving Iranian, Palestinian, and Hezbollah flags. In Baghdad, hundreds of protesters raised Palestinian and Lebanese flags, with some stepping on the Israeli flag.

A symbolic model of the Dome of the Rock mosque was displayed on the stage, alongside images of prominent resistance leaders, including former Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah and former Hamas political bureau head Ismail Haniyeh.

Hamas praised the widespread participation in the “Friday of Rage for Palestine and Global Quds Day in Arab and Islamic capitals and cities.” The movement called for continued action in coming days to intensify pressure, halt Israeli aggression on Gaza, break the siege, and prevent further massacres of innocent civilians.
