❗️
Pakistan carried out airstrikes in eastern Afghanistan that killed 10 civilians, including nine children, according to Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid. He said Pakistani forces struck a home in Khost province and launched additional attacks in Kunar and Paktika, wounding four more people. Islamabad has yet to comment on the operation.
The strikes came a day after a suicide bombing on a security compound in Peshawar killed three Pakistani officers and injured 11 others. While no group claimed responsibility, Pakistani officials blamed Afghan nationals and pointed to the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), which Islamabad says operates from Afghan territory. A similar attack in Islamabad earlier this month that killed 12 people was also linked to a TTP faction.
Relations between Pakistan and the Taliban-led government in Kabul have deteriorated further since border clashes last month left around 70 dead.
A ceasefire brokered by Qatar and Turkiye has failed to resolve the underlying dispute, with Pakistan demanding that Afghanistan curb TTP fighters and Kabul countering that Islamabad is violating Afghan sovereignty and harboring hostile groups.
