Pope to visit Turkey, Lebanon on the first trip abroad & the question of moral obligation

Pope Leo will visit eight towns and cities in Turkey and Lebanon later this year, the Vatican has said, his first trip outside Italy as pontiff, and he is expected to make appeals for peace across the region.

In Lebanon, the pope will meet President Joseph Aoun in Beirut, will host an interreligious meeting and will lead an outdoor Mass on the Beirut waterfront.

The pope will also pray at the site of the 2020 chemical explosion at the Beirut port that killed 200 people and caused billions of dollars worth of damage.

The official motto of Leo’s Lebanon trip is “Blessed are the peacemakers.”

The “moral obligation” part

The point of a peace agreement is to cease killings and destruction, and the peace committee has the duty to uphold and tohold those accountable who violate the rules.

The zionist entity has no right to kill Lebanese, including Hezbollah fighters, as there is supposedly a ceasefire in place.

These international mechanisms do not work in the benefit of Muslims.

There is the UN Security Council, which is obliged to weigh in.

However, the UN intervenes only when UNIFIL is attacked, whose members are overwhelmingly white Christian westerners.

There are no national or international mechanisms to protect the Lebanese civilians, let alone their fighters.

How much could be expected from a Katholic Christian head who has been silent on this topic since assuming the post?

A decent spiritual leader would decisively intervene in the face of the zionist colony’s killing of at least 103 civilians and many resistance fighters since the so-called peace agreement in November 2024.

The pope has chosen to go back 5 years in time and to pray at the Beirut explosion site, oblivion to the 2024 genocidal war waged on the country by the zionist-american entity that claimed over 4000 lives so far.

His choice is the cue on his stance.
