Al-Suwaidaa province: Following the military raid carried out by Syrian government forces [Jolani’s Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham terrorists] in Al-Suwaidaa city on July 15, SOHR documented serious violations against unarmed civilians, including execution operations, acts that amount to war crimes under international humanitarian law.
SOHR documented a horrific massacre committed by members of the Ministry of Defence, in which 12 civilians from one family were killed, including six women. The massacre took place on July 16, after storming the home of Pastor Khaled Maher Mazhar in Al-Koum neighborhood in Al-Suwaidaa. The perpetrators opened fire directly on everyone inside the house, even extending the killing to include the family’s dog, an act that reflects the extreme brutality of the massacre.
Amid the ongoing violations committed against the people in Al-Suwaidaa province, SOHR calls for the establishment of an independent UN fact-finding committee to investigate the crimes committed against civilians in Al-Suwaidaa and to hold all perpetrators accountable, regardless of their positions or affiliations.
SOHR reaffirms its unwavering commitment to monitoring, documenting and exposing all violations committed against Syrian civilians, without exception. This stems from its human rights and professional responsibilities, to shed light on ongoing abuses, working to reduce and end them and pursuing justice by ensuring perpetrators are held accountable before judicial authorities.
