Lebanon Speaker Berri Speaks Sunday on Imam Sayyed Sadr Disappearance Anniversary
Lebanese Speaker Nabih Berri is to deliver televised address on Sunday, on the 47th anniversary of Imam Sayyed Moussa Al-Sadr’s disappearance anniversary.
The speech, at 15:00 (Beirut time) on Sunday, is expected to tackle latest developments especially in Lebanon.
Local media reported earlier this week that Speaker Berri is expected to give a detailed and firm stance on the US pressure on Lebanon regarding the ceasefire deal that ended the brutal zionist war earlier last year and disarming the resistance.
“Speaker Berri will outline his stance on the latest developments and their implications in a televised address next Sunday,” Al-Jomhouriya Lebanese daily reported on Thursday.
On Friday, Speaker Berri was quoted as saying by Assas Media that “the US policy serves ‘Israel’ more than the US itself.”
The Israeli enemy continues to bomb Lebanon, mainly the country’s south, almost daily and maintains occupation over five posts along the southern border, in violation of a ceasefire deal reached following a brutal 66-day Israeli war between September and November 2024.
Despite the continuous Israeli attacks, the Lebanese Government approved earlier this month “objectives” of a US plan to disarm Hezbollah, yielding to US and Israeli pressures.
The cabinet session on August 7 followed another session on August 5, in which the Lebanese Government tasked the Lebanese Army with drafting a plan to confine all weapons to the State by the end of the year.
The Lebanese State has been subjected to unprecedented pressure by the United States, the first sponsor of the Zionist entity, to tackle the issue of disarming Hezbollah.
Imam Sadr founded the Lebanese Amal (Hope) Movement in 1974. The cleric who is of Iranian descent came to Lebanon in 1959. He had been known for patriotic stance and working to preserve rights of Lebanese people especially those of Shia Muslims.His eminence disappeared on August 31, 1978, during an official visit to the Libyan capital Tripoli.
He was accompanied by Sheikh Mohammad Yaqoub and journalist Abbas Badreddine.
