• At least 290 killed in Air India crash; only one surviving passanger

At least 290 people are dead after a passenger plane crashed on departure at an airport in Ahmedabad, India, health officials said. The plane, en route to London, hit a hostel for doctors when it crashed, and images show its tail protruding from the building. The death toll includes people on the plane and others on the ground, police said.

    • Sole survivor: A total of 241 of the 242 people aboard the Air India flight were killed in the crash, the airline said. A single British national passenger survived.

    • Boeing’s response: The plane was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, according to Flightradar24. It’s the first major incident involving the aircraft. Boeing said it is ready to support Air India.

    • Safety record: Air India has seen a few rare but high-profile plane crashes through the years. Previous accidents have spurred Indian authorities to improve its safety and infrastructure, but challenges remain.

For first time in two decades, IAEA says Iran breaching nuclear pact

The UN nuclear watchdog’s 35-member Board of Governors found Iran to be in violation of its non-proliferation commitments for the first time in nearly two decades, potentially setting the stage for a referral to the UN Security Council.

Iran said it will establish a new enrichment facility after the vote against it. The announcement said the facility will be “in a secure location” and that “other measures are also being planned.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has no choice but to respond to this political resolution,” the Iranian Foreign Ministry and the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran said in a joint statement announcing the decision.

  • More Alawites killed as Syria’s civilian death toll under HTS nears 8,000

HTS terrorist leader Abu Mohammed al-Jolani and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan shake hands and pose for the press after meeting in Ankara on February 4, 2025.

Three Alawites have been killed in western Syria, a war monitor says, coming in the wake of another report that nearly 8,000 civilians have been killed under the Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) terrorist rule.

The Alawite population has suffered recurring assaults since the HTS overtook the country last December.

According to the so-called Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), local armed groups killed three civilians in Baruha village near the Lebanese border and torched shops and vehicles.

The deaths come hours after Syria’s SANA news agency reported that a security officer had been killed in an attack in the Tal Kalakh area.

Over the last five days, at least 18 Alawites have been killed in a new wave of violence targeting the minority group.

The SOHR said Monday at least 7,670 people, mainly civilians, have been killed under the HTS rule in Syria since the fall of former Syrian president Bashar al-Assad’s government.

Noting that 75 percent of all the deaths are civilians, the report added that among those killed are 5,784 civilians, including 306 children and 422 women.

“This grim toll is a result of ongoing violence and violations by local and external parties, alongside widespread security chaos,” which reflects “the fragility of the security situation and the increasing danger to the most vulnerable constituents of society”, the SOHR said.

It also warned of a “pattern of organized violence” across the country.

The HTS, a former branch of al-Qaeda, along with other militants, seized control of Damascus on December 8, 2024, after Assad, a strong supporter of the Palestinian cause, left the country.

The HTS administration has since been accused of flagrant violations of human rights in Syria, particularly against minorities, namely Syria’s Alawite minority, drawing widespread condemnations from the international community.

Since the collapse of Assad’s government, Syria has also faced a widespread Israeli occupation and regular bombardment. The Israeli military has been launching airstrikes against military installations, facilities, and arsenals belonging to the country’s now-defunct army.

  • Children from England’s impoverished areas ‘less likely to achieve development goals by age five’

According to another report published by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in April last year, 4.3 million children, or 30% of all children in England, live in low-income households.

The aid agency UNICEf UK says English children from impoverished areas of the island-nation are twice less likely from 75% of pre-schoolers to reach good levels of development by age 5.

A report by the UK branch of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) mapped every local authority area across England measuring its level of deprivation and a range of early childhood health and educational outcomes such as oral health, weight and A&E (Accident and Emergency) attendance.

It reveals that children in England’s most impoverished areas are over twice as far from reaching the government’s target of 75% of young children achieving a “good level of development” compared with those in the most affluent areas.

The five most deprived local authorities (Blackpool, Hull, Knowsley, Liverpool, and Middlesbrough) ranked among the lowest 20% for five out of the six measures of child well-being, according to the analysis.

The study also showed that obesity levels in reception-aged children in the most deprived areas are more than double (12.9%) compared to children in the most affluent areas (6%).

In the most deprived areas, nearly twice as many children have untreated tooth decay (29%), compared to the most affluent areas (6%).

Babies and young children in the most deprived areas of England have 55% more visits to A&E than those in the most affluent areas.

Philip Goodwin, the chief executive officer (CEO) of UNICEF (UK branch) said, “The consequences of poverty can last a lifetime and are especially harmful for babies and young children. Growing up in poverty damages children’s life chances and our analysis shows the scale of the problem across the country.”

“There must be immediate, decisive, and ambitious action by the government. Any further delays will condemn hundreds of thousands of children to poverty and its effects, as child poverty rates continue to rise,” he warned.

According to another report published by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) in April last year, 4.3 million children, or 30% of all children in England, live in low-income households.

The government says unexpectedly high inflation, driven by the war in Ukraine and supply chain challenges, has contributed to the rise of poverty, especially child poverty.

UK Exports to US Plunge After New Tariffs –

In April, UK exports to the US dropped by a record £2 billion (€2.35 billion) following new US tariffs, mainly hitting cars and precious metals, the Office for National Statistics said. This is the largest monthly fall since 1997.

The tariffs include a 10% mutual tariff and a 25% tax on cars, adding to prior 25% duties on steel and aluminum. The UK’s GDP also fell 0.3% in April, worse than expected.

A May trade deal with Washington exempted some goods and prevented tariffs on steel and aluminum from rising to 50%, but negotiations continue to formally enact the deal.

  • Zionist incursion in rural Damascus leaves one martyred, seven detained

In a pre-dawn military incursion near the Zionist-occupied Golan Heights, Zionist occupation forces shot and killed a young Syrian man on Thursday in the town of Beit Jinn, west of Damascus, amid a wider sweep through border villages near Mount Hermon.

According to Syria TV, the Zionist troops also detained seven young men during a series of raids in the town. The martyr, identified as Mohammad Ahmad Hamadeh, was reportedly shot at close range. His uncle, Ali Qassem Hamadeh, was among those arrested. No further details about the detainees were provided.

    Heavily Armed Incursion
The incursion began before dawn, with Israeli forces advancing from positions near Qurs Al-Nafl in northern Quneitra and Tloul Al-Hamr—areas under Zionist military control—toward Beit Jinn, a town situated less than 20 kilometers from Quneitra and roughly 50 kilometers from Damascus.

Witnesses reported the sounds of Israeli tanks, armored vehicles, and aircraft accompanying the operation. Syria TV described the raid as a large-scale military deployment involving approximately 100 personnel and at least 10 tanks and armored vehicles.

The invading forces reportedly surrounded Beit Jinn, using loudspeakers to call out the names of individuals targeted for arrest. Tensions escalated between residents and soldiers before Mohammad Hamadeh was fatally shot.

    Part of Ongoing Cross-Border Violations
The latest operation is part of a broader pattern of Israeli violations along the border with the occupied Golan Heights. These include surveillance and drone activity, as well as direct ground incursions into Syrian territory—often resulting in the detention of civilians, including farmers and shepherds working near the separation lines.

  • Curfew imposed in Los Angeles as protests spread to other US cities

New York Police Department van struck a protester who was attempting to hurl a dumpster at the vehicle’s wheels. https://t.me/presstv/143549

Los Angeles officials have imposed a curfew in the city’s downtown area to quell protests caused by aggressive immigration raids, which are spreading to other cities.

The curfew on the fifth night of the unrest came as hundreds of US Marines arrived in the Los Angeles area on Tuesday under orders from President Donald Trump, ratcheting up tensions in America’s second largest city.

With five minutes until the curfew took effect, hundreds of protesters faced police with their hands raised, chanting “peaceful protest.”

Trump’s extraordinary measures of sending National Guard and Marines to quell protests, which broke out in response to his immigration raids, fueled agitation in Los Angeles, and sparked protests in several other cities.

Despite opposition from local and state officials, Trump has deployed over 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to Los Angeles.

Police said multiple groups stayed on the streets despite the curfew and “mass arrests are being initiated”. Police earlier said that 197 people had already been arrested on Tuesday – more than double the total number of arrests to date.

Political  leaders have raised concerns over a national crisis in what has become the most intense flashpoint yet in the Trump administration’s aggressive campaign to deport migrants, and then crack down on opponents who take to the streets in protest.

“This brazen abuse of power by a sitting president inflamed a combustible situation, putting our people, our officers and even our National Guard at risk. That’s when the downward spiral began,” California Governor Gavin Newsom said in an a video address.

“He again chose escalation. He chose more force. He chose theatrics over public safety. … Democracy is under assault.”

“California may be first, but it clearly will not end here. Other states are next,” he added.

Demonstrations have spread  to other cities nationwide, including Dallas and Austin, Texas, Chicago and New York, where a thousand people rallied and multiple arrests were made.

Trump hinted at potentially invoking the Insurrection Act—a presidential power permitting domestic military deployment to quell civil unrest or enforce federal law. This rarely used authority represents one of the most drastic measures available to a US president during domestic crises.

“If there’s an insurrection, I would certainly invoke it. We’ll see,” Trump said from the Oval Office.

Later, he called protesters “animals” and “a foreign enemy” in a speech at Fort Bragg.

Trump has described the unfolding chaos Los Angeles in dire terms that Newsom say are nowhere close to the truth.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Trump said Los Angeles would be “burning to the ground right now” if he had not deployed troops to the city.

Newsom, widely seen as preparing for a presidential run in 2028, and other state and local officials have called Trump’s response an extreme over-reaction to mostly peaceful demonstrations.

Newsom accused Trump of sending troops to deliberately inflame the situation for political reasons and said the president’s actions made it more difficult for local law enforcement to respond.

“They want protesters to react violently to distract from what is really happening, which is that families are being separated, our communities are being devastated, and the people of Los Angeles are standing up to say, ‘We will not stand for this,’” said Jean Guerrero, New York Times contributing opinion writer.

The use of active military to respond to civil disturbances is extremely rare.

“This isn’t about public safety,” Newsom wrote on X. “It’s about stroking a dangerous President’s ego.”

US Marines are trained for conflicts around the world – from West Asia to Africa – and are also used for rapid deployments in case of emergencies, such as threats to US embassies.

The top Democrat on the Senate Armed Services Committee, Senator Jack Reed, said he was “gravely troubled” by Trump’s deployment of active-duty Marines.

“Since our nation’s founding, the American people have been perfectly clear: we do not want the military conducting law enforcement on US soil,” he said.

Freedom Flotilla’s Rima, Thiago in colony dungeons: Threats to life, hunger strike & solitary confinement

News as of 6pm Al Quds time: Thiago Ávila and Rima Hassan are now held in solitary confinement under punitive and inhumane conditions: Thiago was placed in isolation in Ayalon Prison due to his ongoing hunger and thirst strike, which he began two days ago. He has also been treated aggressively by prison authorities, although this has not escalated to physical assault.

Rima Hassan was placed in isolation under inhumane conditions in Neve Tirza Prison after writing “Free Palestine” on a wall in Givon Prison. She was moved to a small, windowless cell with extremely poor hygienic conditions and has been denied access to the prison yard. The others remain illegally detained by Israeli authorities. Adalah lawyers demands their immediate release and an end to retaliatory measures.

EDIT: We have just been informed that Rima has been moved from solitary back to Givon. Thiago remains in solitary.

  • Zionist colony equation: Death in exchange for a loaf of bread

32 Gazans were killed and over 100 wounded today as the Zionist entity opened fire on hungry Gazans at the aid distribution point at the Al-Nabulsi roundabout near “Netzarim.” Others were also wounded in Rafah.

Over 150 martyrs have ascended in these aid death traps in recent weeks in so-called “safe zones” whether in Rafah or “Netzarim.” These massacres take place under the eyes of American mercenaries, while the IOF encourages zionist-backed gangs to loot aid and cause chaos, all part of the zionist scheme of using starvation as a weapon.

Given the recurrence of these crimes, Hamas called on the international community and UN to take urgent action to stop this false aid mechanism, nothing that the credibility of international law is at stake amidst a disturbing silence.  They also called on Arab nations to escalate all forms of pressure to half the “crime of the century” being perpetrated against Palestinians.
