Systematic arbitrary arrests of Kurdish young men in Afrin

Turkish-backed factions operating under the banner of the Ministry of Defence arrested seven young men in Darwish village in Afrin countryside.

In addition, the factions arrested a barber working in Aleppo and hailing from Sheikh Kilo village, as well as the arrest of several others in Rota village in Afrin countryside.

Reliable SOHR sources have confirmed that the factions strike reconciliation deals secretly with the arrested young men in the morning and release them, before military security service and transitional government forces arrest them again at night.

This comes after storming Sheikh Maqsoud and Al-Ashrafiyah neighbourhoods by government forces which have imposed strict security measures, including inspection of IDs, searching for those who fought alongside Internal Security Forces (Asayish) in there and those who worked for the councils of the two neighbourhoods.

This has triggered a state of panic among the region’s residents who appealed to relevant authorities to disclose the fate of the arrested young men.

On December 30, SOHR sources reported that members of the General Security forces arrested a young man from Zouq Al-Kabir village in Shirawa district in Afrin countryside, for unknown reasons, while he was in Aleppo. He was taken to an unknown destination, while his fate remains unknown.

His family is appealing to the relevant authorities to immediately disclose his whereabouts.
