IRGC Ground Force Commander Brigadier General Mohammad Karami says Iranian armed forces are on high alert as the US is threatening military aggression amid foreign-backed riots in Iran.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Karami emphasized that Iran is confronting a “comprehensive and hybrid war” waged across multiple fronts, including economic, social, political, and cyber domains.
“We are ready at the highest possible level,” Karami stressed.
The commander also highlighted the unity and cohesion among Iran’s armed forces to confront any act of aggression.
His remarks come amid foreign-backed riots in Iran in the past week, which have claimed the lives of dozens of security forces and civilians.
The unrest initially began with peaceful and sporadic protests by some merchants in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar in response to fluctuations in the national currency and rising inflation, conditions largely driven by unlawful sanctions imposed on the Iranian people, particularly by the United States and several European countries, including Britain.
The protests remained peaceful for a week, during which President Masoud Pezeshkian and his administration entered into talks with representatives of the protesters to hear their demands.
However, starting on January 8, the situation shifted as organized and deliberate violence overtook the peaceful protest over economic grievances, carried out by foreign-backed rioters and saboteurs.
The armed rioters and saboteurs attacked public property, including shops, banks, bus stations, and mosques, and killed a number of security personnel who attempted to pacify them and bring the situation under control.
Authorities in the country have obtained evidence showing that foreign-backed terrorist groups used and distributed weapons and deliberately targeted civilians and security forces.
They hold Israel and the US directly responsible for the acts of terrorism and vandalism.
Meanwhile, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly threatened to wage military aggression on Iran.
Karami’s comments align with earlier warnings issued by the IRGC’s Chief Commander, Major General Mohammad Pakpour, who also stressed the military’s readiness to respond forcefully to any miscalculation by external powers like the US and Israel.
“The powerful and popular IRGC is at the height of readiness to provide a decisive response to miscalculation by the enemy and their Daesh-style domestic mercenaries,” Pakpour said on Wednesday.
