Wildfire threat still persists!
Governor Mohammad Othman confirmed that teams brought three major wildfire hotspots under control in Latakia, as Civil Defense officials said the situation “improved.”
Over 80 Syrian firefighting teams, supported by crews and aircraft from Turkey, Jordan, and Lebanon, are battling the flames. More than 14,000 hectares burned, with mines and rugged terrain complicating efforts.
Civil Defense Director Munir Mustafa said most hotspots are now contained but need cooling to prevent reignition. Fires reached six villages, but residents were evacuated in time.
Officials warned of wild animals fleeing the fires toward residential areas and urged locals to remain alert, especially at night.
Firefighting operations continue into a seventh day, challenged by wind, heat, and difficult terrain.
