France Threatens to Reinstate Sanctions on Iran Over Nuclear Stalemate –

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said France and its European partners are ready to play a key role in Iran nuclear talks, warning they could reimpose global sanctions if Tehran refuses to negotiate in good faith.

Barrot told LCI TV that under the 2015 nuclear deal, France, the UK, and Germany could trigger the return of sanctions—including on arms, nuclear equipment, and banking—simply by sending a letter. This mechanism remains valid until October 18, 2025.

He also expressed hope for renewed US-Iran dialogue that reflects European demands.

On another front, Barrot criticized Iran for not responding to France’s request to contact two detained citizens, calling them “hostages.” He warned that French patience is running out and said Paris holds “serious leverage” over Tehran.
