With 222 votes in favor, no votes against, and one abstention, Iran’s parliament overwhelmingly votes to suspend cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The bill prohibits entry of IAEA inspectors unless security of facilities is guaranteed.

MP Salimi, a member of the presiding board, confirmed that both the general outline and specific articles of the bill were approved during the open session. He stated that no individual or institution has the right to cooperate with IAEA officials under the new law, and violators will face legal consequences.

Speaker Mohammed Bagher Ghalibaf said Iran’s peaceful nuclear program will now accelerate, stressing that “we won’t be fooled by any promises and are more prepared than ever to deliver a crushing response to any aggression.” He added that the armed forces have “rendered the zionist regime helpless by accelerating its existential crisis.”

The Atomic Energy Organization of Iran will suspend all cooperation with the IAEA until the security of nuclear sites is ensured.

Following the vote, MPs chanted Death to America and Death to “israel” inside the parliament chamber.
