UN Security Council holds emergency meeting on US strikes against Iran on Russia’s request

The UN Security Council convened an emergency session today at Russia’s request to discuss recent US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites. This marks the Council’s third meeting since the Iran-zion*st conflict erupted.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, speaking earlier alongside his Iraqi counterpart Fuad Hussein, confirmed Tehran’s intent to formally bring the issue before the Council.

For his part, Hussein emphasized the need to activate an open-membership ministerial contact group under the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) to contain the crisis and facilitate dialogue.

He also reiterated Iraq’s proposal to form an Arab-Islamic follow-up committee. This group would engage with the US, European nations, and Iran to pursue de-escalation and prevent further regional instability.

As chair of the current Arab League summit, Iraq pledged to continue pushing for diplomatic efforts and peaceful resolutions.
