EU warns Syrian instability poses terror threat to Europe –

An internal EU counterterrorism draft seen by Reuters warns that ongoing instability in Syria presents a growing security risk for Europe. The document states that terrorism and violent extremism continue to pose a serious threat to the bloc, with the overall terror threat level remaining high.

It adds that worsening conditions in Syria could lead to a resurgence of jihadist groups, either launching attacks from Syrian territory or remotely activating operatives in Europe.

A separate non-binding EU paper from January, obtained by Euronews, outlines strict conditions for any future easing of sanctions on Syria, emphasizing safeguards to prevent terrorism financing or the country becoming a haven for extremist groups.
