Mexico Sues Google Over Gulf of Mexico Name Change to ‘Gulf of America’ –
Mexico has sued Google over its change in naming the Gulf of Mexico to “Gulf of America” on its Maps app. President Claudia Sheinbaum explained that the US only refers to the American portion of the continental shelf as “Gulf of America” and does not have the authority to rename the entire gulf.
Sheinbaum also sarcastically suggested renaming the United States to “Mexican America,” referencing a historical map from before 1848 when the US seized a third of Mexico’s territory, drawing attention to past territorial disputes.
US lawmakers recently voted to support the name change, turning an executive order signed by President Trump into federal law. The dispute has raised tensions between the two countries as Mexico challenges both Google’s decision and the US government’s stance.

During their reign, the Mayans established one of the most advanced civilizations known to mankind.
