Writing on Truth Social, he claimed the US deserves toll-free access because it built and protected the canals, and directed Secretary of State Marco Rubio to act on the issue.

Trump, who previously pledged to “reclaim” Panama Canal from Chinese influence, accused Beijing of controlling the strategic passage. His remarks coincided with Panamanian President José Raúl Mulino’s decision to withdraw from China’s Belt and Road Initiative and to authorize the deployment of US forces around the canal.
