German FM Calls for Peace in Syria as Germany Reopens Embassy in Damascus
German FM Annalena Baerbock urged Syrian authorities to ensure peace and security for all Syrians following violent clashes that killed at least 1,500 people.
She expressed concern about the loss of trust in the authorities, stating, “many Syrians fear that life in future Syria will not be safe for all its citizens.” Baerbock emphasized that “a political new beginning between Europe and Syria, between Germany and Syria is possible,” but it requires “freedom, security, and opportunity for all people — for women and men, for people belonging to all ethnic groups and religions.” She also called on the Syrian transitional government to control violent factions, hold perpetrators accountable, and ensure peace and prosperity across Syria.
Baerbock’s visit coincided with German envoy Stefan Schnick’s confirmation of the reopening of the German embassy in Damascus, which had been closed since 2012 due to the Syrian war.
The German Foreign Minister’s expectation of a proscribed terrorist seems to be unrealistically untenable.
Even if the US-LED West decided to remove Jolani from the famous terrorist list, this fake jihadist used to execute people on live broadcast.
