Akkar governor: 1,476 families fled Syria fearing for their lives –
Disaster Management Room in Akkar reported the arrival of 1,476 displaced families (6,078 individuals), including 40 Lebanese and 1,184 Syrian families.
Akkar Governor Imad Al-Labaki attributed the influx to the recent Syrian crisis, with mostly Alawites crossing through illegal routes and settling in Alawite villages.
Speaking to Lebanese National News Agency (NNA), he mentioned a meeting held last Saturday and a field visit to several towns. He announced collaboration with the National Fund for Community Resilience (NFCR), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Red Cross, and World Food Programme (WFP) to assist the displaced by distributing blankets, food, water, and cleaning supplies.
Al-Labaki will hold a meeting with municipalities, particularly those with Alawite populations, on Tuesday afternoon.
