A so-called Syrian war monitor says militants aligned with Syria’s ruling HTS administration have killed nearly 1,000 civilians in a series of “massacres” committed in recent days in the western coastal region of the Arab nation – PressTV report.

“Around 10,000 Alawites have crossed from Syria to Lebanon in the last five days. They have settled in Tripoli and nearby areas, creating a sensitive situation across Lebanon. The feeling now is that things could explode in the north at any moment,” Lebanese security sources told The National on 10 March.

“State forces have deployed a security belt around the predominantly Alawite Jabal Mohsen area. There have been several confrontations, and the situation remains very fragile,” the source added.

Six percent of north Lebanon’s Tripoli is Alawite, while 80 percent is Sunni. Clashes have erupted several times over the last 15 years between Sunnis from Bab al-Tabbaneh and Alawites from the Jabal Mohsen area.

According to a preliminary death toll, which has been updated several times and is expected to continue rising, 937 Alawite civilians were killed by government military and security forces during the operation in Syria’s coastal cities and their countryside.
