Coastal Syria: Rising tensions and heavy casualties

Over two days of ongoing clashes on the Syrian coast, 147 people, including 69 Alawites, were killed. These 69 Alawites were executed by internal security forces. The clashes involved members of the Ministries of Defense and Interior, former regime soldiers, and civilians. Several others were injured, missing, or captured, with reports of executions.

Large crowds headed to the coast after the remnants of the old regime assassinated police and security personnel, leading to some individual violations. The Syrian government deployed military reinforcements to Latakia and Tartus and regained control of areas, including Qardaha, Jableh, and Banyas, where former regime soldiers are still active.

The Syrian Defense Ministry confirmed significant progress in re-establishing control over areas targeted by treacherous attacks against public security personnel. The curfew in Latakia and Tartus was extended until Saturday.
