Doctors Without Borders (MSF) has suspended its operations in Zamzam displacement camp in North Darfur due to escalating violence. The organization cited ongoing attacks and heavy clashes inside and around the camp as the reason for halting activities, including its field hospital.
Despite severe famine and urgent humanitarian needs, MSF reported treating 139 people for gunshot and shrapnel wounds this month amid fighting between Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces.
MSF mission chief Yahya Kalila said the organization’s ability to operate was severely compromised by security risks, supply challenges, and inability to deploy experienced staff. Zamzam camp, which shelters around half a million displaced people, remains under siege, with few aid groups still active in the area.
