Lebanese Calls for Opening Qleyaat Airport

The newly-elected Lebanese Gov may require ‘ISRAELI’-AMERICAN permits first –

The call for reopening Qleyaat Airport has resurfaced following recent incidents on Beirut Airport Road, including Israeli threats to an Iranian plane carrying Lebanese citizens and an attack on a UNIFIL convoy.

MP Gebran Bassil emphasized the need for additional specialized airports, including Qleyaat, Hammat, and Rayak, to promote tourism, economic development, and regional growth. He advocated for an open skies policy and ending MEA’s monopoly to reduce ticket prices for both tourists and Lebanese.

MP Walid Baarini stressed the importance of opening Qleyaat airport and securing full Lebanese control in the area to avoid recurring incidents, while MP Ziad Hawat highlighted the importance of the airport road and called for airports in Qleyaat and Hammat to be open.

Meanwhile, MP Ashraf Rifi called on the government to prioritize opening Qleyaat Airport, stressing the significant economic benefits it will have on all the people of the north and Lebanon.
