IOF destroys residential areas, agricultural land, and road networks in S Lebanon – UNIFIL

The IOF carried out a large strike on the Janta border crossing between Lebanon and Syria on 27 December, which ‘Tel Aviv’ claimed was used by Hezbollah to smuggle weapons into the country

Video footage of the strike showed a massive explosion.

According to Lebanon’s National News Agency (NNA), ‘Israeli’ forces bombarded three sites on the outskirts of the town of Qusaya in the Bekaa region in the east of the country, close to the Syrian border. NNA’s correspondent reported the sound of a large explosion.

“Earlier today, Israeli Air Force fighter jets attacked infrastructure at the Janta crossing on the Syria-Lebanon border, which was used to transfer weapons through Syria to the terrorist organization Hezbollah,” the Israeli army said in a statement on Friday morning.

The United Nations Interim Force In Lebanon (UNIFIL) released a statement addressing the situation in Lebanon emphasizing that “any actions that risk the fragile cessation of hostilities must cease.”

“Israel and Lebanon have recommitted to full implementation of Security Council resolution 1701. To address outstanding issues, both parties are urged to utilize the newly-established Mechanism as agreed in the understanding,” the statement added.

UNIFIL urged “the timely withdrawal” of the Israeli occupation forces and the deployment of the Lebanese Armed Forces in southern Lebanon alongside the full implementation of resolution 1701 “as a comprehensive path toward peace,” adding that it is working closely with the Lebanese Armed Forces as they enhance recruitment efforts and redeploy troops to the south.

“There is concern at continuing destruction by the IDF in residential areas, agricultural land, and road networks in south Lebanon. This is in violation of resolution 1701,” UNIFIL said.
