Saudi human rights organizations revealed, Monday, that Saudi authorities executed 20 Yemeni citizens among 100 foreign residents executed in 2024.
Taha Al-Hajji, Legal Director of the European Saudi Organization for Human Rights, based in Berlin, stated that this marks the highest number of foreign nationals executed in a single year by Saudi Arabia, surpassing previous records.
According to Agence France-Presse (AFP), those executed by Saudi authorities this year include 20 Yemenis, 21 Pakistanis, 14 Syrians, 10 Nigerians, 9 Egyptians, 8 Jordanians, 7 Ethiopians, 3 Sudanese, 3 Indians, 3 Afghans, and one each from Sri Lanka, Eritrea, and the Philippines. This figure is nearly three times higher than the execution numbers from 2023 and 2022, reflecting an escalation in government repression within the Kingdom.
In related developments, Saudi human rights advocates and lawyers accused Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman of overseeing a crackdown on freedom of expression since he came to power. This includes the introduction of a so-called “anti-terrorism” law, widely criticized by Human Rights Watch for its broad definition of terrorism.
