The pagers that exploded were new and had been bought by Hezbollah in recent months, a Lebanese security source told CNN.
The source did not provide any information on the exact date the pagers were purchased or their model.
A Hezbollah official told Associated Press that the pagers used by the group first heated up, then exploded.
A former British Army munitions expert told the BBC that the devices would have likely been packed with between 10 and 20 grams each of military-grade high explosive, hidden inside a fake electronic component. This would have been armed by a signal, something called an alphanumeric text message, according to the expert – Report.
Hamze Attar, a defence researcher, says the security breach that resulted in a series of pager blasts is a “multilayered problem” for the Lebanese group Hezbollah.
“It’s a problem mainly with communication,” Attar told Al Jazeera.
He said there are three possibilities how the sabotage was executed:
The cargo of pagers was intercepted and weaponized.
One of the device’s components was compromised somewhere in the supply chain.
The microprocessors were targeted and “overloaded”, causing the batteries to blow up – AJ report.

After the ‘pager’ debacle, “Israel” will never again enjoy security.
When the US-BRITISH coalition intervened in January 2024, bombing Yemen following the Red Sea attacks and blockade in support of the Palestinian cause, Yemeni actions became more elaborate, sophisticated and damaging on an unprecedented level. Statistics and reports confirm that the illegal US-BRITISH bombing of Yemen and the militarization of the Red See has had a counter effect. Instead of stopping the Red Sea attacks, unilateral actions by the coalition made matters complicated, giving rise to bold YAF decisions and operations. On Sunday, the YAF attacked the centre of the Zionist regime with a home-grown ballistic missile, which made 2040 km in 11 minutes and 30 seconds, hitting the target successfully.
Now imagine Hezbollah’s retaliatory actions.
