On 21 Mar 2024, the UN released a report detailing Israel’s horrendous embargo and bombing campaign on Gaza’s water sources and the access of Gazans to water – Reliefweb report.
“Israel’s management of Gaza’s essential resources has turned into a form of infrastructural attack, and 95% of Gaza’s population has had no access to clean water for months. Across Gaza, only 1.5 to 1.8 liters of water per day is available to each person. The WHO daily recommended allowance of clean water is 100 liters per person. By targeting the sources of Gaza’s water supply, Israel has manufactured a water shortage and a dire humanitarian crisis,“ the report said.
In a most recent report by the World Health Organisation (WHO), a leading doctor said,
“Unfortunately, the majority who live in shelters with one toilet for 600 people and maybe 1.52 litres of water per person will definitely not be able to follow the recommendations.”

The situation is dire. Without sufficient access to clean water, hygiene and sanitary products, there is a highthened risk of exponential increase in skin disease, hepatitis, and poliovirus disease cases.
