Following two cyclones in 2018, the UAE entered Socotra under the guise of providing humanitarian aid. The UAE set up several military bases, and ever since, their occupation of the Socotra Island has been extended to a degree where they effectively exploit on the Island’s natural resources, which has left destruction beyond repair to the Island’s unique fiona and fauna.

Though Yemeni cannot visit Socotra, tourists from all over the world can access the Island, incl., Israelis, via the UAE and contribute and enrich the UAE tourism.

Meanwhile, the UAE/ Southern Transitional Council military bases have extended on Socotra to include the Israeli military.

The war on Yemen, which gave rise to exploitation of Socotra, started when a Saudi Arabia-led coalition backed by the US, UK, Canada, EU, UN, and various other actors invaded Yemen on 26 March 2015.
