#OnThisDay (2018) The Saudi-led, US-BRITISH-BACKED coalition bombed a cholera treatment centre

The newly constructed cholera treatment centre in Abs, Hajjah, run by Doctors without Borders (MSF), was hit by Saudi-coalitioni airstrikes. MSF records clearly demonstrate that the GPS coordinates for the cholera treatment centre were shared at least 12 times in writing with the coalition’s Evacuation and Humanitarian Operation Cell (EHOC). The coordinates were shared on a weekly basis over a period of more than two months prior to the bombing. EHOC acknowledged receipt of these coordinates in writing at least nine times. The SELC was therefore aware of the coordinates.

Markings on the roof of the compound clearly identified the CTC as a healthcare facility.

The facility was empty at the time because it had not yet received any cholera patients. No staff or patients were injured or killed. Markings on the roof of the compound clearly identified the CTC as a healthcare facility. © MSF

The cholera endemic emerged in Yemen in the wake of the indiscriminate bombing of the civilian infrastructure by the Saudi-led, US-BRITISH-backed coalition bombings in October 2016.

Ever since Yemen has been in the grip of the cholera endemic, emerging with intensity especially during the rainy seasons.

At the height of the cholera endemic, over 2 million infected cases had been reported.
