Cholera in Yemen

The number of suspected cases is as many as 1,000 on a daily basis. The report expects the number of infections to jump to 255,000 by September.

The rapidly escalating cholera outbreak, with over 40,000 cases in total and over 160 deaths year-to-date. Heavy rains and flooding are expected to make the situation even worse.

The World Health Organization (WHO) warns against Cholera, which can kill within hours if left untreated. It explains that cholera is a water-borne disease that affects people with inadequate access to safe water and basic sanitation.

The cholera endemic hit the country in October 2016 in the wake of the destruction of civilian infrastructure caused by the Saudi-led coalition, whic is backed by the US/UK/UN/EU and various other actors.
